Top tips for getting your garden to spring back to life

Clean out the garden

Winter in Perth can get pretty wild and woolly, which means that you can be left with plenty of debris like leaves, branches or weeds built up in your garden. By clearing the debris, you’ll ensure that any spring seedlings you plant will have adequate runoff when you water them. Once you’ve cleared the debris, don’t ditch it! Keep any dead leaves or small branches and chuck it into a compost pile for future use.

Give your soil some TLC

Winter dries out soil and can leave it begging for moisture, so adding an organic material to your soil like compost or manure will give it the boost it needs. If you’re unsure about what to buy, pop into your local nursery and they’ll be able to give you some tips.

Make a plan

Before you head out and buy any seedlings or plants, it’s always best to map a plan. Consider what you’d like to plant, and where you’d like it to go – it’ll go a long way in making sure that you give your plants the best possible start to their new life in your garden! If you’re not sure what to buy, it can also be handy to jump online and see what types of flowers, plants and vegetables are best suited for your location.
